Research and Reading Interests

I have always been drawn to both the arts and the sciences.  Much of my research and writing involves finding ways to blend the two together, or looking for opportunities to help make both of these general disciplines more accessible and responsive to each other and to the general public. Some of my current areas of interest are as follows:

  • Methods for teaching technical communication practices to Computer Science students and other STEM majors.
  • The effects of expanded access (through the internet and other sources) on our consumption and creation of cultural content, especially how we take up and remix film, television, video clips, and literary sources to create our own reflections on culture.
  • Contemporary American politics and governance.
  • Creative writing, particularly short fiction and science fiction.
  • Writing Across the Curriculum methods and practices.
  • Contemporary cosmology and quantum mechanics research.
  • Ethics in writing and information architecture.
